This is a great park for a variety of interests! This park offers a boat ramp, canoe and bike rentals, camping, fishing, hiking and is terrific for birdwatching. The mature pine habitat is especially good for woodpeckers, including the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker. The nature drive is a nice way for the whole family to enjoy the wildlife. It occasionally closes during rainy times but is still available for hiking.
This is another charming state park. Nice and small. Very quiet, very dark at night. Good for star gazing when it isn't cloudy! Very helpful staff. As an older park, the road into the campground is a bit narrow for larger rigs as well as for manuevering into sites, but we managed with our 36' fifth wheel. They had previously had a lot of rain so the ground was saturated and we received more rain. Therefore, there were puddles all around. We were able to change sites to one on a bit higher ground than our reservation, and we were very grateful, as that put us on a concrete pad rather than on the muddy ground. Nice trails and area along the river. Interesting white squirrels running around the campground! The scenic drive has trees marked where there is red-cockcated woodpecker activity and we did hear and see them. Also saw the leucistic deer, known as "Sugar," between the boat launch and campground area. She has a normal head and white body.
If you've never seen a WHITE(ish) squirrel then Ochlockonee is a place you'll want to visit.
The park is clean and very well maintained, and the staff were friendly an attentive. The camping experience was calm and peaceful with plenty to see within a short walking distance of the site. There is only one camping site with hammock posts, but most of the sites would accommodate a hammock tent using some tree friendly straps.
Great state park. Saw a white squirrel and the confluence of the Ochlockonee and Dead rivers. Nice trails, clean bathrooms and Corgi friendly.
This park is an awesome place to camp, hike, fish, bike, take photographs, or do any kind of outdoor activity, and be near nature. It is dog friendly even on the hiking trails. You will probably see birds, deer, and various other wildlife in their natural habitat. Excellent place to spend a week camping and the staff members are extremely friendly. We will definitely visit again soon.
Beautiful, peaceful park. Plenty of hot water in the showers. Close enough to put kayak in river from several sites or use the nice boat launch area which has a kayak launch. Enjoyed seeing white squirrels and "Sugar", the white deer. Lots of small birds. A nice walking trail along the river and scenic drive which we biked. Bring what you need, not much in the way of stores nearby.
Beautiful and tranquil little park in a part of the real Florida. My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed camping here with our dog! Very dog friendly, saw lots of people with their pups. The campsite we stayed at was wonderful and very private and it had direct access to one of the trails which we loved!! The nature there is so gorgeous and the water was so calming and beautiful, especially at sunset!! We even saw a few white squirrels!!!!!! No white deer though! The only tiny little gripe that we had was that they only had one kayak ( people keep stealing them!! ) that my mom went in and that one had a hole in it and it started to sink while she was kayaking!! I guess they’ve had problems with people stealing kayaks so that’s why they only had one.
I enjoyed the stay here. There was wildlife everywhere! We were hunting just down the road at Tate's hell so this was really convenient for us. Bathrooms were nice and clean, big shower stalls with hot hot hot water. We saw an albino squirrel, fox squirrels, and regular old grey squirrels. We started in site #20 and it was right close to the river, very awesome to have coffee and watch the sun rise.
